Professor Joseph Cory Has Tea With Tutu

Art professor and department chair Joseph Cory spent part of his summer participating in the R5: South Africa project in Johannesburg and Cape Town, South Africa. The project, sponsored by the Nagel Institute at Calvin College (MI), sent 10 North American art professors to South Africa to collaborate with 10 southern African Artists on issues related to the role of art making in post-apartheid reconciliation and healing. Part of the experience included having tea with Nobel Peace Prize winner Archbishop Desmond Tutu. One of the many results of the project will be an exhibition that features the artwork made in a response to the experience featuring the work of all of the participants. It will begin traveling around the country next year (including a stop at Judson University in November of 2015). To learn more see the R5 video here:
